Vardan Voskanian
Instructor of Persian Language
Professor Vardan Voskanian heads the Department of Iranian Studies at Yerevan State University. A foremost expert on Iranian languages and cultural history, he combines deep linguistic mastery with an understanding of the region’s historical and intellectual traditions to illuminate the continuity of politics and geography in Iranian civilization.
He frequently served as a Persian translator during official political and business meetings and negotiations in Armenia and abroad.
Professor Voskanian is Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Iranian Linguistics.
Prof. Voskanian’s expertise spans the full spectrum of Iranian languages—from Modern, Classical, Middle, and Old Persian to Pashto and Kurmanji. He holds BA and MA degrees from the Department of Iranian Studies at Yerevan State University and earned his Ph.D. from the Institute of Oriental Studies of the St. Petersburg branch of the Russian National Academy and the Institute of Linguistics of the Armenian National Academy, specializing in comparative Indo-Iranian linguistics.
